Installers of QuikCaat™Self-Adhering Joint Tape must fully understand the instructions for handling and applying the bonded-asphaltic mastic material. Failure to do so could impact appearance, wearability, and safety. Heat is not required during installation of QuikCaat™ tape, (although heat may be applied to pavement surface when temperature is below recommended application level – heat of any kind is never to be directly applied to the joint tape). Handlers of QuikCaat™must be attired correctly. The application is a Peel – Place – Pressure three part sequence.
A specified joint or crack should be properly prepped before over-banding – this will improve the longevity of the repair. Best Practice requires the work area to be clean of all dust and any debris, a dry surface, and cracks filled and leveled with appropriate crack filler. Best application is when ambient air and surface temperature is 60°F (15°C) and rising. To begin: Peel back glossy white release liner away from mastic while centering the tape over the joint or crack. Place self-adhering exposed mastic onto the surface over joint / crack. Pressagainst top wear surface of the mastic manually, working to applying full pressure across the entire top layerof the wear mat therein permanently adhering it to the pavement surface and over-banding joint. Take care to apply pressure on all edges of tape. Once the entire joint/crack is covered the remaining tape on roll may be cut cleanly with a straight edge. Once the material is pressed in place and the work site is free of workmen it may be opened for pedestrian and/or vehicle traffic. Properly dispose of any waste material in accordance with local governing laws. QuikCaat™ is classified as non-hazardous waste
